Matthew Hancock


Matthew was appointed Minister of State for Skills and Enterprise in October 2013. He is the Conservative MP for West Suffolk.

After becoming an MP, Matthew was elected to the Public Accounts Committee, which scrutinises and questions the way that Government departments spend taxpayers’ money, and the Committee on Standards and Privileges that adjudicates on MPs’ conduct.

In September 2012 Matthew became Minister for Skills in the Department for Business and Department for Education. In September 2013 he was promoted to Minister of State for Skills and Enterprise, adding responsibility for small business to his existing responsibilities for Apprenticeships and technical education.

Matthew was educated at Farndon County Primary School, West Cheshire College and The King’s School, Chester. He gained a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Exeter College, University of Oxford, and a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge.
